Paula Petherick

I first stepped into the world of photography in high school and then never left.
I have - in the twenty five odd years since - worn a variety of hats within the industry. In my late teens I started work as a photographer in the New Zealand Airforce, followed by a period of commercial photography in the wedding and portraiture arena.
Now I find that I have come full circle and back to being thorougly absorbed by the creative process of fine art photography. I have a great passion for creating images that reflect everything that I love about New Zealand.
Working from a studio environment, combined with a digital darkroom enables me to merge multiple photographic layers and textures in order to produce images which blur the lines between art and photography. I am very much interested in creating images which follow in the path of classic styles of art within a New Zealand context, and am really excited about the direction that this is taking me.
At the moment I currently divide my time between Tauranga (my home town) and the Middle East (Qatar) where my husband works in the oil and gas industry and where our two children are in school. It is a fairly challenging balancing our life with my work but I am fortunate to have a fantastic fine art printer in New Zealand and a very supportive family.
I hope you enjoy my work.
