Alecia Koenigsberger
Alecia Koenigsberger is a Wellington based painter.
Starting Art school on Saturday mornings at the age of 9, the idea of painting from the subconscious began at an early age.
On completing school in Sydney, Alecia attended The NSW College of Fine Arts, receiving a scholarship to study further in Tuscany, Italy. On returning to Australia Alecia worked in the studios of Dinosaur Designs in Sydney, before meeting a New Zealander and moving to Wellington in 2000.
Alecia had always painted on a casual basis starting painting full time in 2022.
Having a sellout solo exhibit at Thistle Hall Gallery, Alecia’s work can now be found in several beautiful galleries and homeware stores across New Zealand.
‘I adore layering paint and scratching back into it with either my pencil or an oil pastel. I focus on the colours that appear from the previous layer, using those lines to build the image in the next layer. I use a lot of washed-out colours, rarely using a pure colour. My go to colour is a dusty soft blue, I love how it sits calmly with all other colours.
I am hugely influenced by my surroundings and my family. I love my garden and a sunny spot listening to the birds. I love how light falls on different surfaces, and I adore my house full of fragrant flowers.’
